Clinical Informatics Specialist: Drug Knowledge & Terminology
Join a dedicated clinical informatics team responsible for developing drug information and patient-matching tools utilized by physicians, nurses, and other clinicians at the point of care. This remote contract position, spanning six to twelve months with an anticipated start in January, requires approximately 30 hours per week of focused clinical and technical collaboration.
Role Overview
You will assist in maintaining a comprehensive clinical knowledge base covering approximately 6,000 drug indications. Your clinical judgment will ensure content remains accurate, consistent, and user-friendly. You will collaborate with terminology standards and knowledge structures to effectively connect drugs, conditions, and patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and maintain drug indication content, including the relationships between drugs, conditions, and patient factors
- Map and normalize medications and clinical concepts using SNOMED CT and RxNorm
- Contribute to the construction and refinement of knowledge graphs and concept hierarchies that power drug lookup and matching
- Synthesize information from multiple clinical and drug references into a single reliable and consistent view
- Collaborate with informatics, product, and engineering colleagues to translate clinical needs into structured content
- Document decision-making processes and identify content gaps
Required Qualifications
- Medical degree (MD/DO or equivalent), with USMLE passed if relevant to your location
- Clinical background in family medicine or internal medicine
- Working knowledge of SNOMED CT and RxNorm
- Understanding of semantics, ontologies, and knowledge representation, including graphs, trees, and hierarchies
- Strong knowledge of drug therapy and indications
- Ability to work independently on a part-time contract
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in clinical informatics, medical content, or terminology
- Experience with drug reference tools or clinical decision support
- Familiarity with ICD-10 and LOINC
Role Clarification
This position focuses exclusively on clinical content and terminology work. It does not involve EHR build or configuration, nor does it include software development.
Location
This is a remote role open to candidates located on the US East Coast, in Europe, or in India.
