Join the PAGES (Past Global Changes) community, an international paleoscience network whose International Project Office is hosted by the University of Bern. As the in-house data scientist, you will support working groups in curating, harmonising, and analysing paleoscience datasets while helping to build the network's products, publications, and outreach.

Your Responsibilities

• Provide data science support to PAGES working groups, focusing on curation, harmonisation, and machine learning/AI applications.
• Manage the Data Stewardship Scholarship.
• Oversee data curation, ensuring compliance with FAIR/LiPD standards and maintaining liaison with repositories.
• Serve as a co-editor for the Past Global Changes Magazine and Horizons.
• Contribute to publications, including those from working groups and independent research.
• Coordinate and report on international activities, representing PAGES in relevant forums.

Your Profile

• PhD in paleoscience, data science, statistics, or a related computational field.
• Strong proficiency in R and Python, with experience in version control and reproducible workflows.
• Experience handling large, heterogeneous proxy and geological databases.
• Skilled in managing incomplete, noisy, or unevenly sampled time series.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex methods to non-specialists.
• Excellent written and spoken English; German is useful but not required.
• Beneficial experience with PANGAEA, NOAA, Neotoma, LiPD, age-depth modeling, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
