GNC Engineer

Position Overview

A critical role within a leading organization focused on national security satellite technology, this position is integral to the successful operation of advanced spacecraft systems. The ideal candidate will have a profound understanding of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems and possess the capability to oversee the entire subsystem lifecycle, from initial algorithm development through to integration, testing, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Responsible Engineering Authority for GNC across designated programmes or constellations.
• Oversee the delivery of hardware, software, and analyses at all stages of the product lifecycle.
• Lead subsystem design and analysis, including the development and validation of flight control software.
• Select appropriate sensors and actuators, ensuring their integration aligns with programme objectives.
• Manage GNC activities while adhering to project cost and schedule constraints.
• Guide a team of GNC engineers by effectively decomposing and delegating tasks.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with other subsystems and programme management to ensure cohesive project advancement.
• Provide operational support during on-orbit activities, maintaining ongoing technical communication and reporting.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, accompanied by 5 or more years of industry experience.
• Strong foundation in GNC principles and spacecraft systems.
• Capability to conduct complex GNC system analyses, utilizing existing or self-developed analytical tools.
• Proven leadership experience with a small team of engineers, fostering collaboration across various subsystems and programme ranks.
• Adeptness at breaking down complex tasks into well-defined work packages for execution or delegation.
• US Person status and the ability to obtain Top Secret clearance post-start.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10 or more years of experience in spacecraft GNC system design.
• Hands-on satellite integration and test experience, including the capability to perform independent root cause analysis during integration and testing.
• Experience with on-orbit operations, demonstrating resilience in managing off-nominal activities beyond standard hours.
• Fundamental project management skills, particularly in monitoring cost and schedule performance.
• Advanced understanding of classical and modern control theories, trade studies, and systems integration.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
