Research Focus: Ferroelectric Field Effect Transistor Technologies

Join an international collaboration dedicated to advancing ferroelectric field effect transistor technologies. This role involves a comprehensive approach to materials science, device fabrication, and theoretical computation to develop high-performance electronic components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform epitaxy and characterization of functional perovskite oxide thin films and their heterostructures.
  • Establish composition-structure-function relationships for ferroelectric, semiconducting, and metallic materials in collaboration with partners.
  • Grow metal-ferroelectric-semiconductor multilayers and define and optimize lithographic workflows to process these multilayers into device architectures.
  • Perform electrical testing and benchmarking of individual layers and multilayer structures as ferroelectric field effect transistors.
  • Supplement experimental data with band structure computations to build high-performance ferroelectric field effect transistors.
  • Employ collected data to publish peer-reviewed articles.

Required Profile

  • Master's degree or equivalent in materials science, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline.
  • Foundational knowledge of solid-state chemistry and/or physics, with knowledge of semiconductors and ferroelectrics considered advantageous.
  • Understanding of physical vapor deposition and vacuum infrastructure.
  • Experience with computational studies of the electronic structure of materials.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom device fabrication and experience with Python are considered advantageous.
  • A communicative and team-oriented profile that enjoys working in an interdisciplinary research environment.
  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken English is required; knowledge of German is an asset.

Institutional Benefits

The institution is based on interdisciplinary, innovative, and dynamic collaboration. You will benefit from systematic on-the-job training, personal development possibilities, and a pronounced vocational training culture. Modern employment conditions and on-site infrastructure are available to support the optimal combination of work and family life or other personal interests. This position includes enrollment in the Doctoral program at ETH Zürich, leading to the receipt of the PhD title.
