Research and Teaching Assistant

Join the newly established Chair of Global Security within the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences at ETH Zurich. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with the Chair holder, who will also assume the Directorship of the Center for Security Studies from 2029. The Chair focuses on global security, armed conflicts, the global illicit economy, and transitions from war to peace, utilizing a mixed-methods research programme that integrates macro-level theory with contextualised fieldwork.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the Chair’s courses each semester and manage the online learning environment.
• Assist with grading and maintain the Chair’s teaching records.
• Represent the Chair on the departmental Teaching Committee as required.
• Support research activities for teaching and research projects, including literature and background research, data collection and management, editorial support, and preparing presentations.

Profile

• Hold a Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, or a related discipline.
• Possess specialist knowledge of international politics and global security, with familiarity of relevant research institutes and publication outlets.
• Demonstrate an excellent command of written and spoken English; knowledge of German is an advantage.
• Have experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods.
• Exhibit a high degree of independence and very good IT skills.
