Role Overview

Join a pioneer in Drug Discovery and Development and a frontrunner in Personalised Healthcare. As the world's largest R&D spender in the pharmaceutical and diagnostics domain, our client works across a vast number of drug discovery and therapeutic areas and is highly recognized internationally. This position is based in Basel, Switzerland, and requires an on-site presence, with home office possible only on exceptions.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Scientist within Molecular & Cellular Sciences (MCS), you will play a critical role in executing exploratory biomarker strategies across the clinical pipeline. Working at the intersection of biology, technology, and clinical development, you will deliver innovative biomarker solutions that enable smarter decisions and better outcomes for patients. This is a hands-on, laboratory-based position focused on developing state-of-the-art biomarker assays across multiple programs, collaborating with global experts, and driving the implementation of cutting-edge biomarker technologies from early development through clinical studies.

  • Perform hands-on development and validation of soluble biomarker assays, with a special focus on ligand binding assays such as ELISA, MSD, NULISA, and Ella, as well as other state-of-the-art technologies including LC-MS.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for the transfer, implementation, and monitoring of soluble biomarker assay development, validation, and sample analysis at external providers.
  • Generate and interpret biomarker assay data to enable proof of mechanism, dose selection, and proof of biology across early clinical programs, and present results at internal meetings.
  • Ensure quality and timely delivery of data generated through internal and outsourced biomarker assay activities.
  • Serve as the scientific and technical lead for exploratory soluble biomarker assays, including assay strategy, data quality, interpretation, documentation, and alignment to context of use and clinical study endpoints.
  • Maintain high standards for scientific rigor, documentation, data integrity, compliance, safety, and technical excellence in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant working/residency permit or Swiss/EU-Citizenship required.
  • BS/MS degree in Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, or an equivalent field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a laboratory technician in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.
  • Extensive understanding, knowledge, and practical experience in ligand binding assays are essential; experience in LC-MS methods and other related technologies is a plus.
  • Strong analytical thinking, accountability, and collaborative teamwork.
  • Experience working in a global organization and matrix-resourcing model is a plus.
  • Good computer skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Soft MaxPro, SMART Book, GraphPad Prism, and Watson LIMS.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements relevant to Biomarker Development (e.g., GCLP, ICH).

Nice to Have

  • Strong track record for providing scientific contributions in biomarkers, translational science, or analytical technologies.
  • Established external scientific reputation through conferences, collaborations, publications, or consortia.
