This role requires hands-on involvement in developing robust injection molding solutions, driving process improvements, and implementing advanced technologies to support high-volume production.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for injection molding tooling and part design, collaborating with suppliers and cross-functional teams to optimize manufacturing processes, reduce lead times, and enhance product quality.
  • Provide guidance to suppliers on optimizing silicone parts and tooling for scalable manufacturing.
  • Utilize tooling design and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) programs to standardize and optimize tools.
  • Conduct mold flow analyses, create risk assessment reports, and propose design improvements.
  • Review and refine plastic part designs for optimal performance and manufacturability.
  • Develop and implement standardized systems and policies for tool management, including acceptance processes, design specifications, and lessons learned.
  • Plan and execute tool kick-offs based on component demands and production ramp-up needs.
  • Collaborate with commodity managers to identify cost-saving initiatives.
  • Actively participate in DFM projects to support efficient scaling of operations.
  • Work closely with suppliers to understand and improve manufacturing processes for plastic components.
  • Promote the use of cavity pressure technology across the global supply base.
  • Specify and review designs for equipment, tooling, materials, and part designs.
  • Apply advanced engineering principles to solve technical challenges related to molding.
  • Lead the design and implementation of complete molding cells, including automation and vision inspection systems.
  • Stay updated on advancements in molding technology and propose innovative solutions.
  • Ensure suppliers have accurate prints and Bills of Materials (BOM).

Skills and Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering (Plastics, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related field).
  • Expertise in plastics injection mold tooling and part design.
  • Knowledge of silicone manufacturing processes and scientific injection molding.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis and risk assessment/mitigation planning.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, operations, and supplier teams.
  • Ability to lead tooling programs and navigate ambiguity in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with injection molding processes, medical polymers, silicone processing methods, and cavity pressure sensors.
  • Familiarity with injection molding cells, machines, tools, hot runner systems, automation, and vision systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and project management software.
  • Six Sigma process improvement experience or certification is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (15-25%, up to 40% as needed).
