Lead Academic Strategy and School Leadership

As a pivotal member of the School Council and Executive Leadership Team, you will drive the school's academic leadership while upholding a philosophy committed to character development, student wellbeing, and safety. This key management role involves overseeing operational aspects of the school, working alongside the School Director, CFO/COO, and other Deputy School Directors to ensure a broad, balanced, and effective educational experience.
Core Objectives
- Deputise for the School Director as required.
- Manage all academic aspects of the school, including learning, teaching, and assessment.
- Act as a role model for staff and students, ensuring student needs and interests are at the forefront of all decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Planning
- Serve as a member of the School Council and Executive Leadership Team, contributing to whole-school strategic planning and the implementation of the school’s vision.
- Uphold the school’s ethos, values, and Guiding Principles at all times.
- Advocate for direct reports and work with the School Council to ensure student education is appropriate and effective across all aspects of school life.
- Implement all school policies and procedures, with particular attention to safeguarding children and young people.
Academic Management and Quality Assurance
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, devising strategies for high performance.
- Oversee the school reporting structure, academic assessment plans, and their delivery.
- Advise the School Director on academic policy and chair the Academic Leadership Group.
- Lead new initiatives such as curriculum reviews and effective academic monitoring of students.
- Act as line manager to the Academic Leadership Group, Academic Heads of Departments, and University Advising departments.
- Oversee the Learning Support Department and monitor the provision of Learning Support.
- Monitor and analyse all school public examination results in conjunction with Assistant Heads.
- Manage student data and trends regarding academic performance, including the analysis and dissemination of data from year group examinations and overseeing target setting.
Staffing and Professional Development
- Be fully involved in recruiting new academic staff.
- Oversee the management of staff professional development days, inset, and CPD in conjunction with other leadership team members.
- Participate in new staff induction programmes.
- Work with the Director of Educational Systems to ensure academic staff have regular and useful performance management reviews.
- Manage the school’s PGCE programme.
Accreditation and University Advising
- Line-manage the Accreditation Coordinator to ensure all aspects of accreditation (CIS, NEASC, and IB) are well-organised and well-planned.
- Keep the School Director and School Council fully informed about the progress of accreditation.
- Line manage the Director of University Advising.
- Ensure leadership is informed regarding trends, patterns, new developments in university applications, and Year 13 university offers.
Examinations and Learning Support
- Line manage the Head of Learning Support.
- Oversee applications for special consideration in collaboration with the Head of Learning Support.
- Work with the Director of Educational Systems to ensure the planning and management of internal and external examinations.
- Ensure the accurate and timely analysis and publication of examination results with Assistant Heads.
Events, Marketing, and Compliance
- Collaborate with the School Council to ensure school events are well-planned and run smoothly.
- Work with the Director of Educational Systems to plan Prize Giving, Graduation, and parent-teacher events.
- Ensure the Aiglon Guide is updated annually.
- Work with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure Aiglon Study Guides are accurate and available to the school community.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the School’s DEIJ policies and procedures.
- Stay current with safeguarding legislation and policies, liaising closely with the Safeguarding lead.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and the full implementation of the school’s health and safety policies.
General Duties
- Maintain and update personal knowledge and skills in line with legislation and role needs.
- Be actively involved in staff recruitment as required.
- Be available out of hours in the event of an emergency.
- Attend school functions and events to support students and staff.
- Teach in a specialist area with a reduced teaching load.
- Participate in the duty rota of School Council members on certain weekends and weekend evenings.
- Serve as a member of the Critical Incident team.
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks delegated by the School Director.
