Veterinary Technician

Join a multidisciplinary research team dedicated to conducting preclinical studies and making a meaningful impact on global health. This contract opportunity involves supporting the development and evaluation of novel biological products and therapies while working with research animals, including rodents, rabbits, and non-human primates.

Primary Responsibilities

• Conduct animal research activities, including vaccinations, specimen collection, surgical procedures where appropriate, anaesthesia monitoring, animal health observations, and maintenance of medical records.
• Prepare for animal studies by organising supplies, dosing materials, animal orders, and formulation support for research materials.
• Work under BSL-2 containment conditions when handling research materials, infectious agents, and biological specimens, following all applicable biosafety procedures.
• Administer veterinary medications and perform animal procedures using various methods in accordance with approved study protocols and veterinary guidance.
• Support the health and welfare of research animals through enrichment activities, monitoring treatment progress, behavioural observations, and maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
• Manage databases for animal medical records, study protocols, and study data.
• Process tissue specimens for downstream analysis.
• Perform laboratory operational duties, including inventory management, ordering supplies and reagents, maintaining safe working conditions, and ensuring proper disposal of chemical and biohazardous waste.
• Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely research documentation.

Skills and Requirements

• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with non-human primates is highly desirable.
• Experience working with infectious agents or within a biosafety environment is highly desirable.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established protocols.

Compensation

$20.00 - $28.00/Hour
